At-home collection. Meaningful insights. Personalized plan.

Gut health is a foundation for wellness. Thorne’s gut microbiome test gives you a detailed analysis and a personalized plan that targets your GI discomfort and optimizes wellness. The test combines cutting-edge sequencing with Onegevity’s Health Intelligence to make meaningful changes.

What we measure:

Intestinal Permeability: Understand how your gut is influencing the gut lining and how to minimize the risk for leaky gut.

Gut Dysbiosis:  Provides a measure of dysbiosis, which is an imbalance in the bacteria in the gut. Bacterial balance is associated with health, wellness, and a reduced risk of various disease conditions.

Digestion:  Age, prescription medications, over-the-counter products, surgery, injuries, and various lifestyle factors can impact your digestive capabilities.

Inflammation: Understand your risk for inflammation and patterns of inflammatory activity.

Enteric Nervous System Imbalance: Learn how your bacterial makeup impacts the communication between your gut and brain, which affects your autonomic and central nervous systems, nutrient metabolism, sleep, mood, food cravings, stress levels, and more.

Diversity: The quality and quantity of microbes in your gut influence many metrics of health, weight, and metabolism, as well as risk for disease.

Micronutrients: Because certain gut bacteria produce B vitamins, they contribute to your recommended daily intake of folate (B9), B6, B12, and niacin (B3).

Short-Chain Fatty Acids: Short-chain fatty acids help maintain normal levels of inflammation and support immune function.

Immune Readiness: Your gut’s microbial composition plays a key role in keeping you healthy when you face immune stressors. Your score is derived from an advanced proprietary equation.

Pathogens:  Acute pathogens from the air, food, or drinking water can cause immediate and undesirable symptoms.

Collection tips

When collecting stool sample:

  • Finish urinating before beginning the collection process.
  • Collect a stool sample that is free from any urine or toilet water.
  • Toilet paper is okay to use during the collection process.

1.  Activate your test

Before you collect your sample, you must first activate your test online at www.thorne.com/activate.

You can find your 8-digit activation code on the back of the Gut Health box. It is also located on the collection tube and the back of the padded envelope.

You are now ready to collect your sample. Please read the instructions before you collect your sample.

2.  Collect sample

You can collect your stool sample on any day and time that you choose.

Finish urinating before attaching the FecesCatcher to the toilet seat.

Following the directions on the FecesCatcher, attach it carefully to the back of the toilet seat. Be careful that the FecesCatcher does not contact the toilet water.

Use the FecesCatcher to collect the stool sample, but do not remove the FecesCatcher from the toilet seat.

Unscrew the collection tube cap and place the tube cap upside down on a flat surface. Be extra careful the tube cap does not flip over or touch anything, which can contaminate the cap.

Tip: If the tube does accidentally spill or tip, as long as there is a bit of liquid left inside, it will be okay.

Collect your sample from the FecesCatcher:

 Firm Stool (non-liquid)

  • Remove the pre-sterilized coring brush from the packaging. Using the coring brush, insert the brush end into different areas of the stool sample and gently rotate the coring brush back and forth in the stool sample to distribute the sample evenly around the brush. Do this 10-12 times to get a representative sample. Avoid getting large clumps of stool on the brush.
  • Place the coring brush into the collection tube, replace the tube cap, and vigorously mix the brush with the liquid for exactly 10 seconds. After mixing, dispose of the coring brush, and tighten the cap on the
collection tube. Shake again to mix contents thoroughly.
  • After collecting the stool sample, loosen the FecesCatcher on both ends and drop it into the toilet bowl. Wait until the paper softens and flush the toilet.

Liquid Stool

  • Collect 1-2 milliliters of the liquid stool using the plastic bulb pipette and squirt it into the collection tube (1-4 squirts). Then use the coring brush to collect as much stool and liquid sample from the FecesCatcher as you can to get a representative sample.
  • Place the coring brush into the collection tube, replace the tube cap, and vigorously mix the brush with the liquid for exactly 10 seconds. After mixing, dispose of the coring brush, and tighten the cap on the collection tube. Shake again to mix contents thoroughly.
  • After collecting the stool sample, loosen the FecesCatcher on both ends and drop it into the toilet bowl. Wait until the paper softens and flush the toilet.

  • Place the collection tube into the original ziploc bag, then place that bag into the biohazard specimen bag and tightly seal the bag.
  • Place the biohazard bag into the padded shipping envelope with prepaid postage, seal, and drop off at the nearest USPS office or schedule a USPS pick - up if available in your area.
  • Tip: You don’t need to write your name or any return information on the collection tube or on the package when you send it back. Your personal information is linked to the barcode number when you activate your test electronically.

3.  Return

Store your sample as described in these instructions. After you have collected your sample, return it using the enclosed prepaid shipping envelope.
